Since I've been reading a lot of questions about IELTS, can we have a short survey to know how many took it whether requested by the CO or not? This is to gauge if it's mandatory for the majority or the "English is medium of instruction certificate" is enough. This is by no means applicable to all but might help some who are wondering.
For those who got a request from CO, kindly share what visa you're applying for to also see if it's skewed more to a specific visa (student for example) while not for others.
Thank you!!!

Sorry kept changing the "title". The first few ones kasi might be confusing kaya wala masyadong sumasagot ng poll :-) Baka lang. But final title na 'to ;-)

Given the changes in immigration rules on proving one's English ability, this will no longer be applicable to all candidates selected after October 12, 2016 as it will now be mandatory for most "non-English" countries to take an English test. Exception will be those who are citizens and went to school in UK, Ireland, Canada, Australia and the US.
All the rest will now how to take IELTS or any of the following: -Test of English as a Foreign Language Internet Based Test (TOEFL iBT) -Occupational English Test (OET) -Cambridge English: First (FCE) and FCE for Schools -Pearson Test of English: Academic (PTE: Academic)
For earlier applicants with ITA already, you can still present "alternative" proofs but I wonder if they will now be stricter? They could still request for a test even if you were selected prior to October 12.

My understanding is if you received your ITA before oct.11 pero hinde ka pa nagsubmit ng documents, it is not mandatory to take IELTS but you may have to upon CO's request. Tama po ba?

Hi @gv, Ganyan din yung issue ko, i have my ITA last August but planning to lodge this week. Naka received ako email from immigration and eto ung content na medyo worried ako "English language requirements have changed Under the SMC, all applicants aged 16 and over need to show their English language ability. From 12 October 2016, the evidence SMC applicants are required to provide to show this has changed. If you submitted your residence application on or before 11 October 2016 the changes to English language requirements will not affect your application. Your English language ability will be assessed on the basis of the Immigration Instructions in place on the date of your residence application. If you have been invited to apply on or before 11 October 2016, but have not yet submitted your application, your English language ability can be assessed on the basis of Immigration Instructions in place on 11 October 2016, however if you wish to use one of the new means of showing you meet English language requirements, you may opt to do this. The new requirements are: an International English Language Testing System (IELTS) certificate score of 6.5 or more for yourself as principal applicant, or 5 for non-principal applicants, in the General or Academic module. IELTS certificates must be less than two years old, or evidence of citizenship in Canada, Ireland, the United Kingdom (UK) or the United States of America (USA), and evidence of having spent at least five years working or studying in those countries, or in Australia or New Zealand, or evidence of having a recognised qualification, which was gained in Australia, Canada, New Zealand, Ireland, the UK or the USA, that’s comparable to a New Zealand bachelor’s degree. The person who holds this qualification must have studied for at least two years in any of those countries to get that qualification, or evidence of having a recognised qualification, which was gained in Australia, Canada, New Zealand, Ireland, the UK or the USA, that’s comparable to a postgraduate New Zealand qualification. The person who holds this qualification must have studied for at least one year in any of those countries to get that qualification." Kindly check po, parang di ko pa din kase matanggap Thanks and Regards,

dsdgel it is NZ Immigration's prerogative to have you take an English test if they are not satisfied with your evidence of English proficiency. Ganun na talaga even 4 years ago.

GV and dsdgelI think from that letter it is clear that if you received your ITA before October 11, English test is not yet mandatory. BUT it can still be requested as mpz mentioned. That possibility has always been there but unlike before wala ng chance to prove your English ability in other ways for those who got their ITA after Oct 11. dsdgel since Sept pa ITA mo you can still try submitting the other proofs. Wala naman akong mabasa sa letter na hinihingan ka na. But be prepared just in case.

No problem dsdgel Mukhang nag email blast sila sa lahat ng applicants informing them of the changes in requirements. It looks like an FYI letter para sa lahat. Good luck and isipin mo na lang swerte pa rin na hindi ka inabutan ng 160 points. Yung IELTS you just need to take and retake if needed. Magastos lang pero mahirap solusyunan yung 160points so consider yourself lucky
